Want to start racing, but don't know where to start? Have a read through some of the important things to think about before going ahead.

Off-road racing is a thrilling and challenging sport that requires a strong and capable vehicle. Whether you’re buying a pre-built car or building one from scratch, there are a number of things you need to consider to ensure you have the right car for the job.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when buying or building an off-road race car:

  1. Purpose: Determine the type of off-road racing you’re interested in and make sure your car is designed for that type of racing. Different races require different types of vehicles, and you want to make sure you have the right car for the job.
  2. Budget: Off-road racing can be expensive, so it’s important to set a budget and stick to it. Consider the cost of the vehicle, equipment, and maintenance when setting your budget.
  3. Power: An off-road race car needs to have plenty of power to tackle the rough terrain. Consider the engine, transmission, and drivetrain when choosing or building your car.
  4. Suspension: A good suspension system is essential for an off-road race car. Make sure your car has a high-quality suspension system that is designed for the type of racing you’ll be doing.
  5. Tires: Tires play a critical role in off-road racing, providing grip and stability on the rough terrain. Make sure you have the right tires for your car and the type of racing you’ll be doing.
  6. Safety: Safety should always be a top priority in off-road racing. Make sure your car has all the necessary safety equipment, such as a roll cage, racing harnesses, and a fire extinguisher.
  7. Support: Finally, consider the support you’ll need to keep your car in top condition. A reliable and experienced mechanic can help you keep your car in top condition, and a good racing team can provide valuable support and guidance.

Some you will need to do is find out which governing body the event(s) you will be competing in fall under. For example, AASA, Motorsport Australia (formerly CAMS) or CCDA. Finding out what specific requirements they need for Roll cages equipment etc. will make sure you can do it right the first time.
