Trip report by the Northside 4x4 adventure beginners day at Donny brook.

Beginners Day at Donnybrook

The day started off with everyone meeting at the twin BP servos Northbound near Morayfield. Was very surprised to roll in to the servo and see a dozen cars parked up for the day. We had a great selection of makes and models with 15 cars in total, from the trusty Pajero’s and Triton’s, a couple of Rangers, a couple of Prados including a rare Shorty which was awesome to see, a new Great Wall dual cab, a Patrol, a Navara, a Hilux, and Mick Easton’s black Great Wall that just keeps going and going and going.

With Donnybrook being a short 5-10 minutes drive from the meeting point, we found a long piece of gravel road to pull up and air down. We thought our day was going to be cut short when we were approached by the QLD forestry asking if we had a permit to enter the forestry because we had more then 5 cars in our group. So we split up into a few groups and headed to meet up at the quarry and play hills to have some fun.

Now obviously this being a beginners day we had a few people that had never been out in the bush or played around in the mud, however we did have a few people that chanced the mud and play hills and came up short and managed to become stuck. But the quarry is a really good place to cut your teeth as there are varying challenges to test your skills.

Now just on a side note, I’d just like to add that yes we are well aware that there was a heap of rubbish and burnt items in the quarry and we would of stuck around and cleaned this up but we had no way to actually clean it up safely so it was reported to the forestry and they were going to investigate. We will try and organise a day out there to clean the place up as there was quite a bit of dumped stuff on the side of the tracks. Stay tuned for that one.

We finished at the play hills and headed out to hit the tracks. Didn’t know what to expect as we got a big dump of rain the week prior so was hoping we would see a bit of mud or if it would be dry but we were pleasantly surprised when we hit our first bog hole only 5 minutes into the first track. There were a few slippery spots that had a few vehicles sideways on the truck and a few bog holes that we were uncertain, the last one being the one of most concern, but with little bit of a walk through and testing the bottom, we were all through it within 15 minutes.

We finished the day off around lunchtime and found a nice spot to air up and everyone was wrapped with how the day had gone and was keen to do it again real soon.

Big thanks to all those that came out and spent the day wheeling around the forestry. It was great to see some fresh faces and it was great day for Adventure, Northside 4x4 style.

Shoutout to all our businesses in the group, we appreciate your support and look forward to supporting you guys where we can in the future.
